Bråtens Fabrikker AS, Eskimo, was founded in 1955. The history began with deliveries of socks to the Norwegian military, and later there were also deliveries to the Swedish and Danish military, as well as the Sirius dog patrol in Greenland. The socks were produced and marketed under the brand name Eskimo.
Over time, the Eskimo range expanded to include sweaters, jackets, hats, and mittens. The Icelandic sweater (Islenderen) remains a very popular garment, along with many fine sweaters featuring patterns inspired by Norwegian knitting traditions.
In the mid-2000s, we started producing underwear in merino wool. Wool from the merino sheep has different properties and is better suited for such garments than wool from the Norwegian sheep.
Our woolen garments are equally suitable for both work and leisure.
